“Check-Mate” is a battle system that has been introduced by Circle Industry, from Austria. It was previously an All-Style battle system in its first version, but was then transformed for Bboy battles. We’d like to give our special thanks to our friends from Austria, Mike Tike and Circle Industry for helping us with the opportunity to bring this concept of battling to Lion City.

Rules for “Check-Mate”:

There’s basically 3 significant roles in “Check-Mate”. The King, Queen and Pawn. The battle is done a round at a time(1 throwdown from each sides) in which at the end of every round the judges will point to the winner and the dancer who loses the round will be “killed”.

The King has the “power” to call out a dancer from the opponent’s side when he/she goes out first, and “kill” the opponent.

The Queen has the ability to “revive” a dancer on his/her team who has been “killed”, but is unable to “kill” the opponent when the Queen wins the round.

The Pawn is just a normal role which can “kill” the opponent when the round is won.

All the 3 roles are not exempted from being “killed” if they lost the round that they battled in.

The King can never start the battle, therefore only Pawns will be able to start the battle (like in real chess). After the first round everything else is allowed.

During routines, the last dancer on the field will be “killed” (if the loose the round). However should a crew end off the round with a routine involving 2 or more dancers, they will have to decide which of those dancers will be “killed”

Last, the crew that wins a round must start the following round regardless of the number of dancers are left in the crew for the battle.

Circle Industry have made and shared the small tutorial video for “Check-Mate”. You may refer to it too.

Stay tuned for more announcement made. 🙂
